Hittade dessa inspirerande rader på jakt efter ny information om Ryan Adams (ny cd p g i november). Visst låter det här spännande?: Artists you should really watch. From the backwoods of GhostTown, Louisiana…Deadmen tell no tales it is said, but sometimes, on rare occasions, they live to sing them.
Such is the case with Dege Legg, born in the backwoods of southern Louisiana and raised—a bastard-savage—by his mother in a junkyard bordering on one of Louisiana's infamous, haunted swamps. Enduring countless beatings by a constant rotation of psychotic father-figures, he soon sank into the bizarre circus of his imagination, eating snakemeat, experiencing strange hallucinations, chasing suicide ghosts, yanking wires hanging from the gut of the August sun.
At fourteen, he found his first guitar in a deadcar and strung it with screen wire from a broken window. He soon fell in love with the instrument, and in turn slowly began to develop his own style of acoustic blues; singing of the ghosts of dead slaves, mysterious drugs, feverish hallucinations, haunted fields & swamp. It served as an eerie soundtrack to the young post-punks growing up in the Deep South.
Over the course of the next 10 years, Dege traveled the U.S., hitchhiking and taking up residence for short periods of time in cities on both coasts, finally settling it Baton Rouge, where he became involved in drug and criminal activity that led to time spent in and out of the Louisiana Prison system.
Tiring of the "drug-scene" and its many limitations, he set off on the road again—San Francisco, New York, Mexico, then back Louisiana to take up residence in Lafayette, La, where he founded the band Santeria in 1994. The band quickly developed it's own sound and toured the U.S, releasing three critically acclaimed albums: Santeria (1997), Apocalypse, Louisiana (2000), and House of the Dying Sun (2002), produced by 4x Grammy award winner Tony Daigle (Sonny Landreth, Dr.John, Taj Mahal).
During this time, Dege continued to hone his own brand of acoustic blues songs, releasing Bastard's Blues (1997) and Love Letters and Suicide Notes (1999), while also publishing his first novel, The Battle Hymn of the Good’OleHillbilly Zatan Boys (2000). He is currently recording his 3rd solo disc with Tony Daigle at the helm.
It promises to raise the bar in the roots-oriented/singer-songwriter genre. Fans of Tom Waits, ’65 era Bob Dylan, Neil Young, Ryan Adams, and Will Oldham should definitely check this out. Those who have heard the rough mixes are saying this album is going to drop like a bomb on the current crop of singer/songwriters. Let’s hope this will be the one to break him and shake things up a bit.
Any label interested in releasing something new and groundbreaking should visit the website: http://DegeLegg.com immediately. The future is unwritten.

Och om man nu skulle känna en oemotståndlig och obeskrivlig törst efter denna mystiska hallunisatoriska träskmusikaliska bluesdryck så undrar jag var man kan införskaffa dylikt. |
