Folk: Art Turner - Sonora

"The fingerstyle art of guitar playing by Turner is feverishly bright and achingly beautiful." -- Dirty Linen Magazine

It’s hard to imagine that Art Turner -- with a rare Formal Showcase at the North American Folk Alliance, a spot on Canada’s all-star guitar compilation Six Strings North of the Border 2, and a string of major festival slots under his belt -- didn’t pick up an instrument till the tender age of 31. A former motorcycle racer and professional photographer of some national renown, Art took a hard left turn when he traded his Hasselblad for a handmade acoustic guitar, and never looked back. Ten years and three critically-acclaimed albums later, he has blossomed into one of Canada’s finest guitarists, a fixture on CBC Radio and the folk festival circuit, and an internationally recognized composer, with a transcription of one of his tunes recently published in the popular American magazine Fingerstyle Guitar.

J.E.Borgen
The General Store
Americana Folk Rock rooted in the intimacy of Dylan and mixed with the edge of Wilco.

J.E.Borgen’s musical education began as a guitar tech for the indie rock band, Dispatch. It was through the experience of touring the country that Borgen first began molding his writing style and penchant for performing and a life on the road. Ultimately, the event inspired and spring-boarded J.E. on a musical journey that uprooted him from Denver to Boston to pursue studies at Berklee College of Music. It was during his time in Boston, playing clubs and schools around New England, where Borgen started to draw attention to his unique voice and contagious melodies.

Josh Ritter
Golden Age of Radio

Songs that retain the pop sensibility of another era: catch-tunes that could easily be at home on a Rick Rubin-era Johnny Cash album and earnest lullabies that rekindle the warm glow of a young Will Oldham.

This is the 2004 re-release of Josh's 2nd album "Golden Age Of Radio", featuring a disc of bonus material, a full lyric book and new photos. The bonus disc includes Jackdrag remixes of "Come & Find Me" and "Otherside", a cover of Leonard Cohen's "Chelsea Hotel #2" and home made video's for "Me & Jiggs" and "Otherside".

Forrest Jourdan
The Family Farm

Beautifully crafted singer songwriter songs in the Americana, folk,
pop genres. An easy and fun listen.

Phases and Stages
BY JIM CALIGIURI
For the Sake of the Song... The Family Farm (Eye Man) marks a return for Forrest Jourdan. With his band, Jourdan experienced a bit of nationwide success in the mid-1990s before fading into oblivion. The Texan's taken to a solo career, and his previous experience seems to have served him well. Jourdan's songs bear a semblance to those of Guy Clark or Charlie Robison in that they contain a similar sense of Texas seasoning ...

Ben Forrest Davis
Roughs

Honest, and beautifully fragile songs about love and self destruction performed in an organic, soft rock style.

Ben's album Roughs was written while he was living illegally in a condemned mattress warehouse. His song writing aspirations and solo artist identity were put on hold for several years while he built a career in the rock band Sugarcult. Now, with the lifestyle of rock-n-roll excess behind him, he has released this collection of special, personal songs.
