Hi,
A distinguished A.C.A. member Aristidis Coumpas - ARCO (see profile at http://aca.gr/pop_coumpas.htm), has just finished his last DIY project, which is a Parallel Feed, Dual Mono SET amplifier with 45, VT52, 300B and SV811-3A tubes.
He is using it now as his primary amplifier, driving his Klipschorns and he has included a full report on all construction details in the "Audio... papers" section of the Club's web-site. Just visit 'THE GRACES' - Building of my 45 (and consorts...) triode SE tube amplifier at http://aca.gr/paper31.htm .

Really nice and compact design - I understand the heating problem, and would certainly go for the mono solution.
But I'm a bit puzzled. The amp uses a 6H30 input (1/2) to drive the 45. Where does the 811 and the 300B come in? Are they just there to make even more heat and make it all look really impressive?
BTW - Right now I'm building a similar small amp using the French R120 triode. Not as big and heavy as this one, but with allmost the same outputpower. What you write about using less capacitance in the powersupply is really appreciated. I have never seen this before. A friend of mine made a 4 Watt SE using several 1.000 uF in the powersupply - anyway I think it sounds really OK driving his 105dB horns. |
