The M1 USB Digital to Analog Converter

The D/A converter is a very critical part of the digital audio chain, after all you have to convert it to analog to hear it, and we feel this should be a true as possible in its reconstruction of the original signal. it is a dual mono design; there are 2 completely isolated channels, a left and right, each with its own dedicated linear power supply, D/A converter, DDS clocking, and analog circuitry.

Many hours of listening were done to tune the M1 to an exacting sound, with all types of music, and with extensive testing done in the studio and in the home. The M1 intent is to provide a state of the art, Digital to Analog converter, utilizing the best designs and materials that can be found today. The sound of the M1 is intended to be transparent and revealing, and fully dynamic.

We think you will find the M1 to be pleasing and enjoyable to hear and use in the home.

The New Bricasti M28 Monoblok Amplifier

The Bricasti M28 monoblock amplifier is an exceptionally pure and precisely controlled reservoir of current. The expression of craft wrought in this deep pool effortlessly provides the massive current required to grab onto and control any speaker through the most demanding of musical passages. The sought after listening experience that is so elusive is immediately evident. Ruler flat response and vanishing distortion of course. Fast, articulate, distortion free low frequency performance, even at the speakers resonant peak, perhaps unanticipated.

A balanced differential structure minimizes the stress across each of the M28 amplifier's internal elements. Pairing the M28 with the balanced structure of the Bricasti M1 digital to analog converter forms a balanced differential signal flow from source to speaker.

Bricasti came into corporate existence only in 2004, it is not a pure startup. The principals of Bricasti were longtime Lexicon employees who had to seek other options when Harman International closed down Harman's New England operations. Bricasti cofounder (with DSP-software engineer Casey Dowdell) Brian Zolner's 20 years at Lexicon were spent in international sales. But Zolner was completely immersed in the development of the new DAC, especially from the standpoint of critical listening.

Bricasti writes all its own signal-processing software, but contracts out certain aspects of hardware engineering to AeVee Labs, a company in New Haven. Similar to Bricasti, AeVee is made up of former employees of Madrigal Labs (another Harman International company) who worked on many of the classic Madrigal products during their time there.

So, between Lexicon (which branched out from professional audio to home-theater audio and video processing) and Madrigal (stewards of the Mark Levinson brand and the erstwhile Proceed brand), Bricasti has access to considerable knowledge bases of audio engineering and the professional and audiophile markets. As far as I'm concerned, they have a pretty good story to tell.

Bricasti's first product, released in 2007, was their M7 stereo reverberation processor for the professional recording and mastering markets#8212;not surprising, considering the widespread use of Lexicon reverberation units in pro audio. Bricasti's clean-sheet-of-paper M7, which uses reverberation synthesis rather than convoluting from recorded impulse samples, has gained an enviable reputation as the "gold standard" of reverb generators. Its users include legendary recording engineers Al Schmitt (Capitol Recording Studio A) and Chris Lord-Alge, Robert Friedrich (Telarc), pianist Alicia Keys, and the archival-recording operations of the Chicago and Boston symphonies (footnote 1).
