On a CD jitter is inherent to the system in the way the data is read from the CD. This isn't the case with a DVD. Therefore HDMI cannot improve in the same way on CD as it will on DVD.
In other words: There will be always be differences between CD players until such time the date is completely buffered (large FIFO) or the clock stability task is passed to the DAC (TAG Sync Link). HDMI cannot help here much.
ON a DVD the data is read in clusters from the disc and hence buffered. Here HDMI, being a transport with separate clock lines, will make, if correctly implemented, all source units pretty much identical. It can't though improve on a link ala' TAG Sync Link.
HDMI 2nd generation will allow DVD-Audio to shine, should that format still exist then ;-)
